The region - either EU or US - is detected by checking the IANA timezone of the device when the application is first launched. If the timezone has a prefix of America/, US/, or Canada/, it uses the US region. Any other timezones use EU.

This impacts which default (PromethistAI) project the user gets in their list. This project is also not possible to remove.
